Farm Friends

Copy of chickens.jpg

Fellowfield Discovery Park is a home to many animals. We work with them as partners to make food, organically fertilize gardens, recover food waste, restore native vegetation, support diverse insect populations, and protect one another.

Their presence helps us to critically examine how we treat other living beings and practice healthy relationships of mutual care.

Ruby.jpg

Ruby

Species: Dwarf nigerian goat

Scientific name: Capra aegagrus hircus

Born: March 2025

Description: The most adventurous of the three goats. Ruby always likes to explore, and tries to find ways to access new places (even if that means jumping a fence or two!). She usually acts as the leader of the herd, being the first to try new things or come running when called. She is the oldest of the three, and her curiosity knows no bounds (except maybe a higher fence). Ruby really knows her own mind and does not hesitate to let you know. She will often resort to tugging a sleeve or chewing your pants if you do not give her what she wants! -- Brooke Adams

Skye

Species: Nigerian dwarf goat

Scientific Name: Capra aegagrus hircus

Born: March 2025

Description: Despite being the runt, Skye is the most outgoing of the goat herd. He's always friendly towards new people and might climb onto your lap if you're sitting. He is very food-motivated, and he is usually the first to come if you have treats or anything he thinks might be a snack. He enjoys when you brush his fur, and is always climbing and jumping up onto things, sometimes falling asleep on the most improbable perches. He also sometimes tries to sneak extra treats and will follow you around if he knows you have them! -- Brooke Adams

Aspen

Species: Nigerian dwarf goat

Scientific Name: Capra aegagrus hircus

Born: March 2025

Description: The most cautious of the goat herd. He usually waits for Skye or Ruby to test the waters before diving into something new himself. He keeps tabs on everyone, quickly calling out when he looses sight of anyone to make sure the herd stays together. His name is a reference to the quaking aspen, a common tree here in Michigan. Though he's shy, he is always quick to warm up to new people once he knows they're safe (or if they give him enough treats! He's the biggest of the three, and often initiates playful headbutting matches with Skye and 'king-of-the-mountain' games with Ruby. -- Brooke Adams
